Default Generator low voltage

After two years of sitting we got her running however Gen. Set only putting out 50 volts

1997 4100 SCR

There could be corrosion on the terminals. I would first verify the output with a handheld voltmeter and if confirmed try cleaning the electrical connections.

After verifying the reading is correct(low), check the engine RPM. Low voltage could be due to the engine not reaching proper RPM.

Interesting. My Diesel Kohler is currently being serviced. It is also putting out low voltage. The Kohler appears to have a sensor which cuts power to the fuel pump in such a condition.

Technically, that is the default behavior for a Diesel generator. It's protection mode, is to simply cut 12v power to the fuel pump, effectively stopping the engine.

As suggested above, make sure it's not the volt-meter or connections to the volt-meter. Check the voltage coming straight out of the generator itself. Then again, it is not uncommon for a voltage regulator/rectifier to go.
