Default Drive shaft 4100 SCA

I have my drive shaft off on my 1999 4100 SCA, was looking for advice as to what I should consider replacing before I have it reinstalled ?

Why did you remove the driveshaft?

The cutlass bearing is what I would look at to see if it requires replacement but you need to install the driveshaft to check the play.

Thanks, I had a run in with a rock. When the marina took the prop off they claim the shaft is 10th one thousands of an inch off so I took it off to have it verified. I am told anything over 6 onethousands of an inch could be a problem.

Cutlass bearing and shaft seals are good to check/replace if shaft has been run while 'bent'.

Did they check to ensure the strut is not bent?

Moved from "Forum Support | Suggestion Box | News" to "Sport Yachts"

I'd do cutlass bearing and shaft seals anyway unless you know exactly when they were replaced last. They are regular wear items. You're going to need to replace them eventually. It might as well be while you're out and everything is apart anyway.

Thanks all. This is very helpful. I am looking for what would be the acceptable amount the shaft can be off. I have been told 4 1000th up to 6 1000 of an inch. As well any suggestions where I might get the pin stripping for the 4100 SRA.

I'm not sure about tolerances for the shaft. Vinyl striping can be had at most chandleries. You won't find the exact colors. Pick what you like and go with it. Even people with the same boat will assume it was part of a color scheme option for that year. As long as it's all the same, nobody would notice it's not stock. Fortunately, boats aren't like cars, people don't care if it's 'period correct'.

Shop I've always used has a 2 thousands max tolerance anywhere on the shaft, with less than 2 thou, preferably only a few tenths (of a thousandth) between any of the main riding surfaces (coupler, thruhull, cutlass and taper).

I had a leak in my stuffing box shaft hose. 1999 SCA with 1500 hrs. Had hose replace and box re-stuffed.
