Default Windless - not windless'ing (?)

Not sure if this was a stock item as I purchased boat used few weeks ago (I'm a newbie to Maxum's) - getting power to the motor (hear a click click) but wont engage gears to raise (or lower) anchor.... I can hand crank anchor up/down with no problem so not a tangle issue...

Never had a windless before so no reference point... Seems difficult to get in there to look, let alone replace anything- thanks for any tips/advice...sorry but windless manuf. not available as of this posting!

Mike
if it's a lewmar windlass...there is a breaker someplace in the back ..ie engine bay or someplace like that...it's a big 50 amp breaker...check the connections at the unit itself cuz corrosion could be a factor....if that doesn't work..then the lewmar has gone south on you and will probably require replacing..but that's highly unusual...I've never heard of a lewmar windlass crapping out permenantly..

Default Breaker

Hey Mike.

I have a 2000 2700 SCR and as Seapuppy said there is a breaker that has to be engaged. The same thing happens with my windlass, I hit the button and hear a click even if the breaker is not engaged. Freaked me out once, but once the breaker was closed it was business as usual.

Happy cruising.

I had the same symptom on mine. Ended up the brake was froze up and needed some encouragement (lubricant and force) to free the brake. I do have to be careful when winding it up. If I tighten the chain too tight it will lock the brake and not allow it to go back down. 1 I try not to pull the chain tight. 2 if it happens I take apart the chain/anchor coupler and run the windlass down. That releases the brake. Good luck.
