Windlass?

Hey Guys,

I've been looking into installing a windlass on my 1994 2700 SCR because its a pain in the neck to try and tuck the rope down the hole without someone in the cabin pulling it down.
If anyone has one experience with these please share.

Whats recommended for application to my boat? Vertical or Horizontal?
Can I used the existing hole for the anchor line?
How much drilling/holes required to install?
please post pictures if you have any.

Question... with a windless who will tuck the rope and who will drive the windless.... not sure I see how a windless will solve the rope issues.

To my understanding:
The windlass system is an electric pulley system that pulls the anchor up and lowers it down. When you press the button to raise the anchor, the windlass wheels in the rope and drops it straight down into the anchor line compartment.

You really need a an enclosed anchor/line locker directly below the windlass. A hole is cut in the deck above the anchor/line locker and the windlass is placed above the hole. the windass feeds the line when deploying and drops the line back in the locker when retrieving. If you look at the manufacturer's specifications it will tell you the range of line diameter and type as well as whether it will handle change as wel as line. It will also tell you the diameter and placement of the hole and the vertical clearance required in the anchor/line locker in order to properly deploy and retrieve a sufficient length of anchor line based on diameter.
