Question Trivial trivia: Capacity rating plate, where is it? And what does the R mean in SCR?

Sorry for these two stupid but random questions, but they popped into my mind the other day and I haven't been able to answer them yet:

1) Where is the capacity plate on a 1990 era SCR-27 (aka model 2755)? Or are capacity plate not installed on boats over a certain size? How many persons are legally allowed on a 27 ft boat if one had appropriate life preservers for each person?

2) What does the "R" in SCR stand for? I assume the "SC" is for "Sport Cruiser", but what does the 'R' mean?

Boats 23 feet and under have cap plates and since you don't have one the formula is LOA x Beam and divide by 7 equals how many you can have aboard...........R stands for rambunctious or anything else that you might feel to add.......but no serious folks......

Enjoy your boat

Actually, boats under 20 feet are required to display capacity plate, 20ft and over are not required. Here is the Coast Guard boat builders handbook that covers this info and how to calculate the numbers.

As far as SCR goes, I had always thought it was like this:
SR = Sport Runabout (aka Bowrider)
SC = Sport Cuddy (aka cuddy cabin version of SR)
SCR = Sport Cruiser (just a bit bigger than cuddy)
SCA/SCB = Sport Yachts (aka out of my price range)

Missed it by three feet.......... The formula for figuring out people cap was wrong too. Loa x beam÷15.....27 x 10 = 270 ÷ 15 =18 people aboard being an average of 150 lbs each. The weight thing could be a problem for some:-)

My 2004 2400 SC3 ("SC3" being sport cuddy, 3rd version/generation) has a capacity plate/sticker that says 11 persons or 1500 (I think) pounds. The weight limit includes people and all their gear.

We had 7 adults aboard this past Friday - I'm guessing about 1100 pounds of people and gear. We've had 8 on it before - a mixture of adults and kids. I honestly don't know where I'd put 11 bodies while under way.

When I had my 2150 Bayliner Open bow model, just to add another couple and gear was almost too much. Not very relaxing.

Your 7 adults had to be less than 160 lbs each for that 1100 lb mark and that is not including gear.

Yeah mine is 9 or 1350 lbs or 1500 lbs with gear. Most I have had is 8 but that was with 4 kids so we just made the weight
I am open bow so I do have plenty of room as I also have the 2 rear seats next to engine plus the front and back facing lounge chairs. So that is 6 behind windshield and can easily fit 3 in the bow.

Wow, I can't imagine 18 people on my SCR-27. There's enough seating for 4 to 6. More than 6 would not be comfortable, unless everyone was spread out in the cockpit, forward cabin and rear berth, and standing in the galley.

Now accounting for heavier people, I assume it would be LOA X BEAM / 20 (for 200 lbs per person), so for my SCR-27, this would be:
27 x 9.6 / 20 = 12.96 persons which I would round down to 12 people. Still too many in my opinion for the layout of the boat.

Did I calculate that right? If I want to assume a few heavier men (200 to 250 lbs), a couple of lighter women (110-160 lbs), and maybe a few children (40 to 90 lbs) ? Or I could keep the 150 lbs average and do: 27 x 9.6 / 15 = 17.28 or round down to 17 people (still too many for comfort).

Correct Roger. The heaviest was my older son at about 190. My younger son and I are light weights at 155. The 4 women ranged from my wife at 117 to a friend of my step daughter at about 140.

There is seating for 7 on deck; the helm, the back-to-back lounge, and 4 comfortably across the stern bench. Can easily fit 5 across the stern bench if they are small framed people, and they'd still not be sitting on top of each other.

Sure, I'll buy that for $1
After all, Sea-Ray calls theirs an Express Cruiser so why not.
