Default Newbie who might buy a 2500 SE

Hi to all.

Not sure of the etiquette on this form, so please slap my hands, or other, as appropriate.

I am new to boating, and I have been offered what I think is a good deal on a 2008 2500 SE.
Is there anywhere I can find a test review for this boat ?

I am looking for some fairly obvious stuff, such as handling and fuel consumption.
The engine is a 350 MAG MPI/BR3.

Any advice on known strong and weak points would be appreciated.

Thanks.

TW,

Can't offer much insight on the 2500 SE, but the 350 MAG/BIII package is very solid and, IMO, the minimum power for a boat that size. You could get by with less, of course, long as you run it light.

Wife and I have a 2004 2400 SC3, a smaller and lighter boat than the 2500 SE, with the 350 MAG/BIII and I love it.

Dan

I have a 2004 2500 SE with the 6.2L MPI and BIII and it has plenty of power and pretty good fuel economy.

Not sure about the Difference btwn yours and mine(94 2400 SCR) cockpit layout is different but other than that I think it's about the same. I bought mine last fall and had to rebuild the motor (5.7) and only ran it 2.5 hours before laying up for the winter, so I haven't even gotten it up to full power yet but the boat performed Great. You can use Google or Bing to search for additional info and Vids, I think you will find Maxum Boats to be a Great Boat, I have also owned a 92 2100 SC, and 94 2000 SC and had lots of fun with both of them.

If your planning to Tow your boat make sure you have a Truck that can handle it, I have a 08 F-150 the Tuck is rated at 6400 and the Boat/trailer weigh 6380 empty. I blew the OD in my in my truck towing the boat about 20 miles. I shoulda turned off the OD but forgot. Lesson learned the hard way!!!

We have a 2009 for sale - reviews available on boat test.com. If you have access to a regal dealer they may have access to some as well. Good luck

I'd get it on a scale. I bet it is a lot heavier than that.

That's strange. My boat alone weights around 6500# and I'd guess it to be close to 9000# with the trailer and fuel, water and gear.

I tow it with an F250 Diesel.

Todd when you say empty I am assuming you mean no fuel or water in thetanks. The 2400 SCR weighs 5000lbs dry and I expect the trailer would weigh ~1200 lbs which would give you the measured weight. Adding fuel, water, and gear will put on another ~1500lbs. What engine is in your truck? I had a 92' F150 supercab with a 302 engine and 2 wheel drive, A4OD tranny (basically a C6 with overdrive) that was rate for 7800lbs.

We have a 2009 with the bigger engine... The boat handles great and is economical... Wants to run at 28 - 32 mph depending on conditions, so when cruising with bigger boats you will be at the front of the pack.

The cockpit layout is amazing putting it ahead of boats that are larger.

The only negative I would have is that the boat sits higher out of the water than many, so if you are anchoring in a sandy bottom your anchor may pop... Experience, and a rear anchor when in shallow water, helps with that.

Thanks ~ rich
