Default New Owner 97 2700 SCR

Hello everyone. I'm new here and just bought a 1997 Maxum 2700 SCR last week. Had been looking at boats for a few months and found this one locally at a boat yard that was selling it on consignment.

I am hoping to get out on the water this weekend and spend the night on it.

We had to replace the compass, and the trim tab switches since they were sun melted. We also bought a new Bluetooth Pioneer stereo head unit, new Kenwood marine speakers, a 24" LED 1080p tv for the front berth, and a blu-ray player.

We are adding a transom tow hook to the boat to pull tubes.

The boat has the 7.4L and Bravo 2 outdrive. I'm looking into getting a lock nut made for the Bravo 2 since it has an expensive 4 blade stainless steel prop. I've heard you can get a machine shop to machine down a Bravo 3 lock nut so I have to find a shop here to do that.

We need to find a place that can make a custom memory foam mattress pad for the rear berth as we want to replace the mattress and mattress cover that's in there. Eventually we will re-cover the front berth cushions and back rests with something a little more modern and better looking than the tweed. We have ordered a feather bed mattress pad for up front.

I'll include some pics of the boat.

Here's some more pics. Does anyone know how to level out the rear cushions? We found some white boards in the rear berth but I don't know how to set them up so that the cushions are level with the seats.

USAF welcome aboard, nice clean looking boat. The BII and BIII's rear prop nut are the same size. The mounting hardware is different between them as the BIII has soild hubs.

We plan on heading there a lot this summer. I work M-TH but I always have 3 day weekends so that should be good for our boating hobby.

If anyone is looking for an LCD tv to mount like mine, I'll be selling this Sylvania tv next week.

I have exactly the same boat but have never seen one with a sunpad. You will love the boat.

Took it out for 3 days and 2 nights. Was fun other than finding a leaking water hose and a leaking out drive hose dripping gear lube. Didn't have any issues as I had a spare qt. of gear lube and kept my eye on it. Boat dealer is going to repair it since we just bought the boat. One of the water lines has a little drip in the engine compartment also.

Had the boat up to 30 mph at around 5000 rpm yesterday with a tail wind. The other days I could get it up to about 28 mph but it wouldn't go past 4100 rpms, then all of a sudden yesterday it revved higher. Was having a hard time getting it to plane up level. Trim tabs were all the way up, boat leaned to the left a bit. It wasn't as bad yesterday. Only used a 1/4 tank in 3 days but we stayed docked most of the time. We had no shore power so we had to run off battery 1 and I'd start the boat up every couple hours to charge back up.

All in all, it was a fun weekend. We just ordered a Honda EU2000i Companion generator so we can use that for shore power wherever we go.

I also cut my hand open Saturday morning and had to be rushed to the ER and got 13 stitches. Note to self, always have scissors and a first aid kit on your boat. If I had scissors I wouldn't have been using a knife to open a plastic package that caused me to stab myself deep down to the bone.

Ouch! No running around the boat with scissors either ;-)

trim tabs are there to help get on plane sooner and level the boat when running, use them. "Tail wind" (must be a fly boy) equates to following seas that push the boat, if going to slow control can be uneasy.

When you say all of a sudden revved higher, by how much? Did speed increase or decrease?

I store my boat at Powell during the season. Saves time, fuel and wear on the rigs by not having to tow it 4-5 hours each time we go up. Also makes it easier to just bust out after work and head to the lake.

30 mph w/ the wind yesterday on Jordanelle. 28 mph was at 4100 RPM Friday. Sunday with the wind I got 30 mph at 5000-5100 rpm. Both days I had it trim tabs up, outdrive fully down, wide open throttle, me and my girlfriend on the boat, between 1/2 to 3/4 fuel. Had been using the water sporadically for two days but we had the water tank full when we launched.

If 30 mph is good at that elevation I'm happy. I was hoping boat would hit 34-35 on the speedometer at around 4500 rpm. Not sure how high its supposed to rev or how accurate the tachometer is.

Yep, hence my user name USAF Long. My last name is Long. USAF was my branch of service. I did 6 years active duty and served a tour in Afghanistan assigned to the US Army in 2012-2013. Started looking at boats when I was over in Afghanistan and have had my heart set on a boat I can weekend on... now we have the Maxum.

You'll get much better cruising speed and performance if you bring the out drive up a few clicks once on plane... Get the bow up just a bit so there is less hull in the water.
