Default Help help help

Hello every one I own a 2005 maxum 1900sr and this forum has been great to me. My question is for a friend. He recently bought a 2003 2300sr that I talked him into getting. He has had a few mishaps as he is new to boating but now he is frustrated. It seems that his fuel pump went out. It is fuel injected and starts great when cold. Once its warm he really has to give it throttle to start. It sounded as if the fuel pump was making noise yesterday and then quit. He continued to boat the rest of the day but then got stranded and had to be towed in. Looking at it today he pulled the fuel pump out and it was dead. However if it is just connected to a battery it runs great. Im assuming it must be a bad relay or fuse going to the pump. Can someone please tell me where to locate these as we can not find them. Is this more than likely the problem or something more serious? Any help would be appreciated thenks

first, a fuel injected engine will run regardless of a hot or cold engine.

An electrical fuel pump is not an intermittent problem. It works or is dead.

much like the car in your driveway, they are reliable.

I would believe you have water in the fuel or a clog.

New boat, mean last owner sold you his problems.

1. Rig up a temp tank at the dock and connect a $2 gas line up and see it you can throttle up.
2 Run a temporary positive power line to the fuel pump and try that at the dock.
3. There is a airflow senor and a pressure regulator, and the fuel separator.
4. Call a mobile machine for $150 and let him plug in and get the computer error code. Sometimes the computer has to be reset to go to full power.

Electrical problems are rarely intermittent.

In addition to what pas has said there is a low oil pressure switch that will kill the fuel pump. It is located on the block where the oil filter or oil filter remote kit attaches.(port side on back of block).

What year and engine?

sde note. A friend has a fuel inject ski boat. starts & runs fine when cold but will not start when hot. His problem is the relay. Its a little black cube in the engine compartment about 1" sq. He for some reason does not want to fix it but has elected to lift up the engine cover after he shuts the boat off. This must cool things off just enough because it starts up every time.
