Default 96 2400 SCR - water in hull under cabin after rain

Hey All -

1996 2400 SCR

Any idea where water could be draining from that ends up in the hull under the cabin? This boat is new to us this year so learning its quirks. We trailer the boat and I noticed that it had about 1-1/2 gallons of water in the hull under the cabin. It was not enough to get the float switch to pump it out, but enough to soak the floor when it was sitting on the trailer, slightly bow-down. I pumped it out, but I checked after a heavy rain a couple nights ago (still on the trailer) and there was some additional water in there.

Also - no new water was in the hull after an overnighter on the water, so I don't think the water is coming in from underneath. It's got a very good bottom on this boat with only minor scratches in the gel coat.

My first thought is maybe some rain is getting into the anchor rope storage compartment from the hole on deck, and not draining out properly through the small weep hole in the hull as designed, but instead draining into the bottom of the hull.

If I look at the compartment under the aft cabin with the water pump, I see a drain hose coming into it from the port side, but don't know where that originates. I don't know if that's where it is coming in either... just an observation.

Thoughts??

Thanks in advance for your time...

Rob

Rob not sure I am following you, are you saying the main cabin carpet is getting wet? Cabin hatch leaking?

Or just finding water in forward bilge?

There is water in the forward bilge. There is no sign of water leaking through the hatch. The floor carpet was wet due to the angle that the trailer was sitting... it saturated through the flooring into the carpet from the forward bilge.

The forward and aft bilge are connected so water can move from one area to another. Is the water fresh or salt? May be leak of head vs water system.

Rain can also leak in around the rail mounts but I would think the V berth would show signs of getting wet. Could it be water entering around the engine hatch and flowing forward since you have the bow low when stored on land?

You should be storing the boat with the tongue slightly elevated and the garboard plug removed. Everything should drain naturally while sitting. For water ingress, look at anything that required a hole be drilled in the boat (cleats, lights, chocks, rail stanchions, hatches, rubrail, etc).

Original post is pretty old, I have a similar issue also. Did you ever solve the problem and if so, what was the culprit?
