Question 96' 2300 7.4MC fuel system

I have a '96 2300 7.4 liter Mercruiser., and have some questions? Did these originally come with a mechanical or an electric fuel pump? If electric, did it have standard shut off switch wired through the oil pressure sensor? Was Rochester carb standard factory equipment?

I believe that carb'd engines were mechanical fuel pumps. Reason being the starting sequence is to put the shifter into neutral, then pump the shifter 3 times. Then start the engine and start advancing the throttle until it starts.

This shouldn't be necessary with an electric fuel pump. With Fuel injected and electric fuel pumps, you turn the key to the RUN position and you can hear the fuel system pressurize. Then start the engine.

I believe this vintage used a mechanical fuel pump mounts to the raw water pump for Bravo applications.

I had a 1993 4.3 with electric fuel pump and if the boat sat for a week or longer it required the same starting procedure as a mechanical fuel pump. I believe the carb bowl would evaporate so a few cranks to fill it and then a few strokes to prime the engine.
