Thanks guys, I tried again this weekend and just cant seem to find what the filter is attached to behind the 2 tanks.
To answer Phillbo, I have a vacu-flush but I am not referring to the line between the head and tank. This is a completely separate 3/4 dia hose that vents the tank when head is flushed or tank is pumped.
So I guess this will be a winter project, where I will remove the freshwater tank from on top of the holding tank and see if I can get at it that way.

I agree with all that regular pump out of the tank help, but I have been battling this issue since I bought the boat last year. I have the tank pumped every weekend since the service is part of the marina fee's. I am pretty sure the PO did not empty the tank when they decided to sell and left me a long standing odorific present. This past weekend before I left the dock I poured 1 cup of bleach in the tank empty through hull and added some water. We made a trip across the Chesapeake that allowed for a lot of sloshing around inside the tank due to dodging large debris for about an hour.
Using the head all weekend we did not notice the smell that has been emanating prior so I might be on to something there.

Use a mirror to help look around those hidden spaces or you phone in video mode to record then view it to figure out where things are.
