Humminbird SI transducer installation

Hi, I recently got a 2002 Maxum 1900 SR and I bought a humminbird 898c SI to put on it. Has anyone installed one of these transducers before? I was going to mount it at the base of the transom but I wanted to check here and see if anyone has any experience. On another note, any thoughts on putting a through hull fitting beneath the swim platform for the wiring?

Apparently inside the hull installation is not an option due to the side imaging (which I am very excited to use).

welcome to the zoo...

you can put a shoot thru xdcr in the engine bay..but you'll lose the temp function on the finder....so..the transom mount would be preferrable.....with that said...just drill a hole high under the swim platform ...seal the snot out of it with silicone sealant (4200)...and put a clamshell cover over the hole...works great and if you ever need to replace the xdcr....it's far easier than drilling bigger hole and installing a thru hull fitting...

I think the shoot thru also looses the side imaging that i'm pretty excited for, so transom mount it is.
Good idea with the 4200, and I have some left over from the bilge pump replacement I did last week.
I'll try and get some pictures up once I'm done with the install.

The OEM depth finder on our boat has a shot-thru-hull transducer as does our Lowrance HDS 5 . The Lowrance's transducer is the standard stern mount (in water) unit and is epoxied to the inside of the hull at center line. It's depth reading matches the other unit. The temp function also works and is within a degree of the temp reading on our son's stern mounted transducer.

His new unit is a SI. Stands for Side Image. It will not work through the hull.
