I have a couple of soft spots on my floor. Anyone ever replace a floor?

Hey stranger it's been a long time since we heard from you, hope your enjoying the relocation to Florida. I have replaced a floor on someone else's boat the big thing to check for is the integrity of the stringers.

Here’s some of the things I “plan” on doing
- repair/replace the floor
- replace upholstery
- relocate the Radio
- replace some wiring

As I get into this project I’m sure they’ll be other things that I’ll have to do and may as well since I already have it all apart

Looking forward to following your project. Is this one for you or are you doing this for someone else? Engine in good shape?

This is my boat. Again... lol. I’ve owned this boat 3 times. Kinda funny actually. I rescued this boat from a field where it sat for a few years. Replaced the eng and fixed it up and used it. Then I sold it to a coworker and got the 2400. Sold the 2400. And my coworker was retiring so I bought it back. Used it for awhile. Then I sold it to a friend and he got tired of it and I bought it back again. The good news is, I did all the maintenance on it all those years. But it hasn’t been used much in the last 3 years so she needs some TLC

That's quite a story Todd. How many more time do you plan to sell and buy her back? lol

And here is where the soft floor saga began. Was it covered? My guess is either no, or very poorly. Possibly adequately tarped initially, but tarp integrity might have degraded over time.

This is a common issue and rooted in the mislead belief that "It's a boat, it's supposed to get wet", which should be chronicled as one of the dumbest assumptions in boating. Boats since the beginning of time have all fought against the common enemy "water". Water rots wood.

Soft floors are a common issue with runabouts. The challenge is whether the moisture wicked into the stringers or transom. It will eventually. Whether it did in yours will yet be determined.

I would postpone spending any money or time on projects until the floor is pulled and the stringers and transom inspected. replacing stringers or transom will put you upside down in the boat.

condolences and good luck.

Shrew, I couldn’t agree with you more With the fiberglass laid over top of the plywood and carpet on top of that once the fiberglass cracks the water seeps in ruins the wood Especially in the high traffic areas Like in the below photos

I can sympathize. I removed my windlass to do some work and found the cored decking rotted. Whomever installed the windlass never sealed the cored decking after hole sawing the deck. !@#$%^&*

The long term plan is to fix up this boat and use it till summer is over. Then get a bigger boat 28’ -30’. Something the admiral and I can go to the Bahama’s in. Hurricane season ends in nov. so that will give me time to go thru the new boat and make sure it’s sea worthy

Next step is to get some cardboard and make some templates of the floor then start removing the bad parts of the floor. (tomorrow) Depending on what I find under the floor will determine if I junk her or Fix her up. I was I could just get Chip Foose to "Overhaul" her LOL

Funny all the things you're finding out about this boat even though you have owned it a few times now. lol

Chip can overhaul mine while he's at it.

1st section removed. The blue tape is where Stringer is I’ll have to trim that up some more but the sides are looking good thank goodness because the seat pedestals are tagged onto the floor the crossmembers for the fuel tank are in good shape little dirty under here but, all in all , not as bad as I expected
