Spotlight/Searchlight

Hey guys,
I want to put a spotlight on my boat as I plan to be fishing more into the night hours and I want to be able to see where I'm going.
Does anyone know what is a good spotlight for a reasonable cost? (preferably under $500)

Also, I know they are generally mounted to the bow. However, my anchor is in the way to put it there.
Could I mount a light on top of the radar arch? Or will that be too far back to get a nice view in front of me?

Any suggestions on Spot/Search Lights and mounting ideas would be great.

Hi Joe,

They make a mounting that goes across the top of the bow rail at the front most part above the anchor pulpit. If you mount it on the radar arch you will undoubtedly get a lot of glare off of the deck which will kill your night vision. Remember that the spot light is to periodically illimunate things for visual confirmation, like a marker or a jetty wall. They should be used like a headlight. GPS, Radar and simple vision should take care of that. After all, what would you do in the fog?

Be careful in your use of the spotlight, Joe. They aren't supposed to be used as headlights at all, ever, because you'll absolutely destroy the vision of any other boater out there.

Awesome, that's exactly what I hoped for but couldn't find the mounting bracket online. Do you know where I can find one?

Do you guys know what a good brand mountable spot light (with controls) would be? I've seen Jabsco, Guest, Golight, ACR, but idk which to go with.
And should I go LED, HID, or Halogen?

Trying to find the best one for under $500.
Its almost like these manufacturers to to confuse consumers, Candella? Candle Power? Lux? Lumens? very difficult to compare models when no one uses a standard unit.

I have a handheld Coleman spotlight now but its a pain in the neck to hold and drive that's why I want a mountable one with controls that I can put on the Dash (or remote control).

Big typo on my part, sorry about that. Correct that should have read "They [spotlights] should NOT be used like a headlight".
