Just a few interesting facts about Lake Mead.....

It has the distinction of being the largest man-made lake and reservoir in the Unites States. It occupies an area of 248 square miles, which equals nearly 1.5 million acres. It has 550 miles of shoreline and is 115 miles long and between 1 to 8 miles wide. The water's deepest point is 589 feet.

Thanks ezcura! It provides a great place for an adult to sleep too without losing the utility of storage in the aft cabin too. Problem is it took me 14 years to figure it out that the cushion fits Perfect and I mean EXACTLY when placed thwartship. Oh well better late than never! lol!! Ah, but have but the lowly 3200SCR (1998). We'll try to suffer along, though. Those of us on the Gulf Coast (SW FL) have no concept of depth, except SHALLOW! I have to go 25 miles off shore to find 100 feet!

Yeah that green thing is definitely an elusive commodity on Lake Mead! More like the surface of the moon! I grew up on this lake being a native So Cal. Boy. Our Family spent countless days on the surface of the Moon hiking in the seemingly endless canyons that culminate at the end of the coves that meander for sometimes over a mile into 1000 foot high cliff walls. These coves offer much needed refuge when the wind blows during the summer and monsoon season in July and August.

Anchoring on this monster of a lake is a whole different thing entirely though. It requires a unique approach to overcome the vast depth. Combined with the fact that although there are many sandy beaches most of those are in open beach areas and not protected from the relentless winds that can and will blow from time to time during the summer. The deep coves often have gravel or pebble beaches making the prospect of beaching unthinkable for the hulls sake so we drop the first mate on the beach bow first equipped with a Lake stake, hammer and 100 foot rode in a utility bag. She then drives the stake into the beach and we then lay our all chain rode (by windlass of course) out beyond the beach and then back into the beach stern first. Once we are in the shallowest water allowable to keep the drives from touching we then attach the beach line, snug it up and viola’ there you are safe as a bug in a rug for the day or night.

All this helps when you have the “Desert Rat Gene” in you like we do. Oldno7 carries the same as we do I suspect?!

Well it's a good thing that the foliage increases as you go up the Colorado river.

As you can well see(kinda) just a bit right of center, thats a lush green tree.

Found it a couple years ago. So yea, not real deserty up here, we's got foliage

Well with trees like that I guess you don't have to worry about ice strom bring them down on the power lines.

Love the idea for the aft cabin! I think I will see if I can find a cushion for that spot so I can lay there and still have the "bench" seats on both sides.
