Lightbulb Bye Bye Stove

So people,? we spent 3 days of cruising the lake on the 2400SCR

BUT

With the load in of "our" stuff and setting the new boat up for us one thing stood out to the wife and I

The Electric/Alcohol stove will NEVER be used, it just wont happen, even if/when we spend a weekend out there we would simply never use it to cook with..

The other problem is it is EXACTLY in the wrong place when entering the cabin, we set everything on top of it each time we went down the stairs
Just not a good spot for a Glass Top

So has anyone taken it out and created something else ???

Our thought right now is a waterproof "Ice box" in the bar biz we called them a "Jockey Box"
Perfect for a rack of beers or ice for drinks.. simple to tie in to the drain from the sink..
On top of that we were thinking a nice solid wood cutting board/prep board

Ideas welcome
Pics are even more welcome :P

If it's just the glass top that's the issue Origo makes a optional wooden cutting board style top.

Thanks I took a look at those on google images

That is better option for sure and easy to make...

Solves the one issue...

I assume your fridge is underneath the stove. There is not a ton of space down there. Not enough for an effective ice box (IMHO). Maybe we drink an obscene amount of beer and that is just us.

I'm not sure how you live without the stove. We use the stove more than the grill. I use the stove to saute onions and peppers and cook omelettes in the morning. Cook hash browns, cook quesadilla's. grilled cheeses. Boil water for pasta, coffee, tea. I dice leftover meat and use that in my omelette's, quesadilla's and make steak subs with the leftover steak from the grill the night before.

This is our entryway into the cabin

The Frige is actually on the opposite wall next to the mid-birth entry

I was looking at it even more yesterday while we were on the lake, and even the pull open drawer with an obscenely small tray for I don't no what is going to get an upgrade so I can at least keep the registration/insurance papers in there along with a Flashlight and maybe a couple of screwdrivers and the correct size Allen wrench for the Bimini Top..

We talked about it driving home last night, and decided that there was simply no way we would ever use the stove. I will of course clean it and store it just in case we change our mind... Six screws and some electrical connects can put it back in...

Colored Starboard, router or bevel the edges with a router, then use 3m doublesided tape and you're in business. OR, a custom fabricated cutting board that drops into the hole.

French toast, pancakes, bacon......it's where we cook when it's raining out. LOL, JK

Good luck!! Not everyone uses their boats the same way and there is no wrong way (aside from driving them up on land). That will yield some usable space for you.

I would look at replacing it with an induction cooktop if i could find something that would fit exactly...

Since the 2400 does not have a genny the only way to use an induction would be shore power or a portable genny.

You could pull the old stove. Build a box with a flush mounted cover (cutting board). Make the box large enough to store a portable butane stove. You still have a stove if you need one, no more bulky glass top, and usable counter space.

You could knock one out of sheet aluminum. I have a small bench mounted brake I made for just such small jobs.

That is a good idea Shrew we seldom use the stove but that portable butane stove is the way to go. Cheap easy to use and stow.

As long as you maintain the microwave you have one of the required items to make your boat eligible as a second home for tax reasons. You need cooking, water access, and a toilet to make this qualification. Personally I agree that the stove is rarely used, but it could also be a problem when it comes time to sell your boat given that all of the others have them... IMHO

Talking

I took my stove out and bought one of those nuwave induction cook tops and it works great. My ryobi 2200 Powers it fine when up river or flat griddle on grill works also. Have a friend that does epoxy work and In fall will redo counter top to fill hole. Hardest decision what color for counter top. Will probably let wife decide then can't blame me if she doesn't like it.
