Default Stalling

So I had the boat tuned up with my winterizing. Have it out first time today on the lake and found when I am in neutral it stalls out what is going on?

Need a little info on your boat. Carb, MPI, year, engine.

Is it stalling while sitting in neutral or when shifting into neutral? If the latter it’s either the lower shift cable needs adjustment or replacement. Either causes the shift interrupt switch to stay closed too long which results in a stalled engine.

Well I can’t tell you that because when I launched it was sitting in neural started no problem. When I was out running and shifting to neutral it would stall out. Actually if I slowly moved it towards nuetral from either forward or reverse it would stall before even getting into the nuetral position. So I could never put it back into nuetral without it stalling. You should of seen the struggle it was to launch in again without being able to use forward and reverse because nuetral stalled it out.

With this type of system shifting slowly will cause it to stall as the interrupt switch is staying closed too long. Additionally this causes excessive wear to the dog clutch. You need to bring the rpms to near idle then a quick shift into neutral.

Didn’t have that issue at all last year I was able to bring it to nuetral with no issues I couldn’t even sit on the late in idle I had to keep trim up with slow forward speed. This didn’t happen until boat shop did a tune up. Monday when they open I will be giving them a call because whatever tune up they did caused starting issues and now stalling in neutral or going into neutral.
