Default slush in boat

I just bought a maxum 2300crs and in the boat under the engine is a lot of black slush.

if i pump it away with bilge pump it fills again but it doesnt overflow.

anyone any idea where it might come from judging the picture?

That's a very dirty bilge.

Is the boat sitting in the water and does it refill just sitting still? or does it only happen when the engine is running. Many sources of leaks.

Yeah, more information needed. If that boat is in the water I'd have it pulled and all the bellows inspected. That is a LOT of water in your bilge.

What is all that gunk on the other side of the stringer?

It probably doesn't overflow because at about that depth you'll hit the level switch on your bilge pump and it's pumping all that oily water over the side.

Mine gets filled by rain water from a leaking rub rail, but there are lots of potential sources.

Like Phillbo said, make sure it's not the bellows as if they get worse and your boat lives in the water, you could overwhelm the bilge pump and sink the boat.

Suggest getting a wet/dry shop vac, vacuuming it out completely and then watching for a while.

turns out the water came from the boiler. there was a cap was missing on a junction pipe sticking out of the boiler.
as soon as a turned on the waterpump all the water flowed freely out of it.

cap was also nowhere to be found in the bilge.

put in a cork for a temp solution untill i get a new cap.

spend 4 hours completly cleaning out the bilge. looks like new now.

Boiler? are you referring to the water heater?

That water heater is in bad shape. I'd think about replacing it.

is this based on a missing cap?

perhaps you are right, havent even tried if it actually heats up.

btw, how do you get warm water if the engine runs?
do you have to flip a switch on the breaker board or should it simply work?

If the water heater is plumbed to the engine's cooling system you would only need to have the fresh water system filled.

hmzzz...
perhaps the cap isnt missing at all, maybe the previous owner had the hose on that in/outlet detached from the engine all together... although he told me warm water from the engine was supposed to be functional.

will investigate further..
