Default Heater in my 95 3200 SCR

Hi All,
I was at my boat last night and it was a bit chilly so I turned on the heat, when I did I noticed that the compressor comes on for 30 seconds or so then cycles off, then back on. ..etc...etc, but it never warms up the boat! Now I had the blower set to automatic so I decided to try it on manual low speed fan and when I did the heat stayed on and seemed to work fine!
Does anyone know why this might be?
BTW the A/C works fine also.
Thanks,
Mike

So in manual the compressor stays on? All the time or cycle over minutes?

Short cycle is typically a feedback issue such as bad thermostat or low gas in system. not sure what to make of this although in manual the thermostat is not controlling temp but in houses manual just runs the blower.

Yes it stays on while it's calling for heat....The previous owner had a very harry dog and the coil evidently clogged with hair and then to compound the issue she took a vacuum with a brush to the coil and she bent all the fins shut, so I'm thinking the reduced air flow over the coils are causing issues, I'm going to have an HVAC buddy of mine straiten and clean the coil and see if that clears the problem up.

Our heat doesn't work in our 2800 scr but ac works great. I guess it's like a heat pump. had the system checked and added r22. ac great no heat.
I just added a small built in electric heater that had a fan on it. Heats fantastic with little current draw.
Broan makes the heater.

Just out of curiosity, what did your unit do when you turn on the heat Baby Blue? Did the compressor come on at all? If so, does your unit have the Auto/Manual fan option on the control? If so, try putting it on manual and turn the fan down to the low setting, mine works great in this configuration.

I thought it came on but can't remember. Pretty sure the compressor was running since basically a small heat pump and runs backwards for heat. is the sea cock open? is water coming out of the bow port?
if no water is coming out but it's running you need to crack open the pump housing slightly to get the air out. I have to do this at the beginning of each season.
I do have auto/manual switch.
I actually have the owners manual in the boat if you have the same unit.
I believe the manufacture was called "airrrrr" or something strange like that. I'm getting the boat tomorrow and can get you more info over the weekend. that is if you have the same unit.
ours is a 1998 2800 scr.
found link for basic info look on page 30

Yes I have water while the compressor is running, but in auto fan mode the compressor only runs for maybe 30 seconds and then cycles off, so it's not enough time for it to start the heating cycle, but it all runs fine if I just put the fan on manual and low speed, that's what I was trying to tell you. ... It might be worth a try for you to try it. I also have my manual, but it really don't seem to cover much except operations. I have a 95 3200scr and believe it's the same brand AC as yours is MarineAirrrre or something of the sort.

Try a "gentle" tap on the reversing valve.....

I'll give it a try HavaMax but if it was that wouldn't it just not work at all? I'm not going to do much to it until after my HVAC buddy cleans the coil and straitens the fins..... I'm really thinking is an airflow problem. If that doesn't fix it then I'll start looking at other things.

Heats the cabin in minutes and is way quieter than the compressor running.

I have a HVAC guy check out mine. Was low on freon. The panel was also displaying an error code. Works great now.

The Heat and AC is all in one and resides under the steps going down into the cabin.

I suspect that gmc60 is actually responding to BabyBlue in post #10 regarding the electric wall heater that was posted.

(This is why quoting helps to clarify responses )
