Default which engine do I go with 5.0, 5.7 or 350 on a 2002 3300 scr?

looking to trade in my 2700 scr which has little power with more than four people on it. All the 3300 scr's I am looking at mostly have 5.0 or 5.7. I heard I should try and find the 350's but there are none for sale with that size. Is there a noticable difference in power between 5.0 and 5.7? Plan on having at least 6-8 people on board with gear (ice chests, ect). Appreciate any feedback. Thanks

A 5.7 is 350 cubic inches.

Welcome Aboard Margaritaville2!!!! I merged the duplicate threads together, which is why it now looks like a double post.

MV,

As JP mentiomned, 5.7 L = 350 CI. The 5.0's and 5.7's were available in different outputs For instance, there was a 220 HP, 5.0, and 250 or 260 HP version of the 5.0. Same goes for the 5.7. Note that the 5.0 and 5.7 are physically the same size so there's no difference in weight.

HP is only part of the story, what no one mentions is torque, which is the number you really want to know (HP is a calcualted number) because torque is what actually twists the props. However, assume for a moment that both the 5.0 and 5.7 are rated at the same HP. The 5.7, due to it's increased dispalcement, will make more torque than the 5.0, and will probably do so at a lower RPM.

Anyway, for a boat the size/weight of the 3300 I'd want the 5.7's, preferably the 300 HP, fuel injected version, AKA "350 MAG".

Dan is right on the money. 350 MAG Is the best way to go!

Dan,

Thanks for the input. Yeah that's what I meant originally as 350 in my post. When I go to see these 3300 scr's for sale they either have 5.0L, 5.7L or it says 350 MAG on the fire cover. Wish I could find more 3300 scr's with the 350 mag available. So knowing that I plan on having more people on the boat than less, I should find engines with more HP and torque to get thrust at lower rpms. I think the boat I am looking at has 5.7L Total Power: 500 HP Bravo II. Is this enough power to move this boat stronger with more people on it? Thanks

My 3300SCR has twin 350 MAG MEFI (Twin Bravo 3 Outdrives) and I've had it up to 50 MPH under ideal conditions. That said I can't imagine it having less power. It still takes several seconds to rotate on plane at 3000 RPM. Once there it cruises nicely at around 30 MPH consuming about 1 GPM.

Many who have the 5.7 (aka 350) wind up replacing them with a 383-stroker. Its the same block, so everything can be reused, bolts into the same engine mounts, etc. But, it produces a lot more torque through the rpm curve.

I forgot to mention that at 50 MPH my 3300SCR is pretty Squirrelly. I don't think the hull was designed to go that fast.

If at all possible, go with something that has fuel injection. Our '96 3200 has 350s with 4 barrel carbs that suck a lot of fuel. Getting them started in the cold can be a pain in the *****. Even when loaded, it jumps right on plane with the Bravo 2s, but that gas gauge is not my friend.
