Yesterday afternoon I pulled anchor and left the cove we stay the weekends at to go to the south end of the lake to meet family. About a half mile out while running at 1800 rpm the engine alarm went off. I shut the engines down and dropped anchor. I turned the keys on and noticed the port engine was at 200 f. I went to the swim platform, the Admiral started the port engine and no water from the exhaust. The starboard was fine. I weaved my way back into the cove on one engine and dropped anchor for the night.
One drunk on a 32' Sea Ray asked what happened, I explained and he stupidly replied - "yea, I always here'd (yes he said here-d) Maxum ain't to reliable". I relied, "Maxum does't make engines. Its a Mercruiser, the same make you have."
This morning I pulled the pump off and sure enough the port impeller had sheared all 8 blades. I slid in a new one and went ahead and changed the starboard while I had everything out. One and a half hours start to cleaned up. One thing I do love about the 3700 is there is plenty of room to get to everything.
The attached picture shows the port and starboard impellers.
