Puzzling stalling issue
This problem has been plaguing us for a few seasons. Boat starts fine and initially runs fine. We tend to move about the lake (large lake) and find a nice place to chill for awhile then move again. This issue does not typically start until we've been out a couple hours, for the first little while all is right. Cruise along at 2500-3000 rpm and then she acts like she's running out of fuel although there can be as much as 3/4 of a tank. To describe the symptom: Cruising, cruising, bog, surge back, bog, surge back.... when I bring to a stop it could either stay running or stall. It will start right back up and we can cruise along if I keep it closer to 2000 rpm. Increase the rpm's and it will do it again. Not knowing for sure if it is a fuel or ignition issue, I changed the plugs and water/fuel separator. The old plugs showed signs of fuel fouling but realistically it ran just about as good as it does with the new plugs. I thought accelerator pump but really, it accelerates just fine and my understanding of the AP is it adds fuel to compensate for the rush of air at the initial opening of the throttle and it seems to be doing this. A large problem here is I cannot duplicate at home with the muffs on.
It ran with no problems last weekend on a different lake but we weren't out as long. Another difference is we had a full tank last weekend and started out with a little over 3/4 this weekend and used it down to about 5/8 of a tank. I note this because I thought maybe it had to do with fuel tank level. I'm not sure what there is in there for a pickup tube.
