Unhappy Pull 7.4 engine to replace oil pan gasket?

I have a 1996 Maxum 2700 SCR that we picked up in trade for our popup camper and some cash. So far we have replaced a lot of parts and now are being told after the sea test that it is leaking oil from the oil pan gasket. My mechanic says the pressure from the ride must have caused it. The boat had sat for an unknown time. Does the engine really need to be pulled to do this? He is quoting around $1300 for the job. 10 hours plus parts. Does this sound like a reasonable time to do the work? We did not expect so much work to be required or we would have not bought this beast. The mechanic who checked it before we bought it claimed it was in good shape. So far we have had the carb rebuilt, many hoses replaced, a bilge pump, new lube and oil change, new belts and plugs. It is a bit depressing to hear they want to pull the motor for a gasket.

Welcome aboard

On some boats you can pull the oil pan without pulling the engine but the hours go way up and the risk of reinstalling the pan so that does not leak all so way up. In other words yep pull the engine. 10 hours sounds good, the outdrrive has to come off, disconnect electrical connections, fuel line, water hose, unbolt,...

Then reconnect it all. This is a 20 year old boat so even if you bought a different but same vintage you would face costs.

All the other stuff you mentioned is normal maintance.

While it is out, now is a good time to clean and consider painting the engine compartment. Vinylester is the better option for painting.
