Default Lube Hose Bravo 3

Ok gents some ideas here

Having the boat gone through and winterized

2000 Maxum 2400SCR 5.7L Bravo 3 outdrive

Mechanic found that the Lube hose to the outdrive was cracking and leaking, no big deal

BUT

The Through-hull fitting was also cracked and leaking

He says the the old screw through fitting is no longer available and that we actually have to lift the engine out to put in a new style fitting

Any ideas ????

With as tight as the 2400 SCR is back there it's hard to agrue with him. Pulling the engine is not all that hard worst part is rear engine mounts.

Did he quote hours and $'s?

Is it possible to just cap it off and treat it like an old alpha drive? Those you had to check and top the drive off more often.

If you trailer, you can add fluid regularly or change fluid often pretty easily.

The cost of pulling the engine and replacing the fitting would probably buy a few years worth of fluid for changing it once a month.

Not able to cap it off but if the thru hull fitting is broke on the inside of the boat he could replace the lube line and just fill the drive to the vent hole of the drive. If broken on the outside it would need to be sealed so water does not enter the boat unless it's capped inside but I would worry about a half ***** fix failing.

What about threading in a brass plug? That's not a half butted fix?

Possible but I think the OP is having a mechanic do the repair and they typically don't stray from factory.

Yes and it combined with everything else is more than fair, I know him personally also, used to teach his gal pal Kempo

I was just wondering if maybe somebody else had dealt with this and knew of a Thread Version that was available

But it is what it is and he is being more than cool..

He already winterized the boat and we are going to store it until early 2017 then take it to the shop so he can do the heavy work during the slowest part of the year... Have it all ready for next season

You're halfway done the work of a transom assembly replacement at that point. A Bravo III going on 17 yrs old..........

There are a few known issues with BIII's. The raw water intake hose gets slowly crushed as aluminum corrosion 'grows'. A small leak develops corroding the steering linkage.

Shrew has a point! Might be a good idea to just replace the transom assembly as a whole. They run about $1600 if memory serves.

Or if corrosion isn't a problem, rebuild it by replacing wear items for a couple hundred dollars...

Yeah that too

The Linkage is being replaced, exactly what he said and that the new part is Stainless Steel
