Default Intermittent no start

Hi all,

A couple of times now, my engine has not started - doesn’t turn over, just makes a click, then nothing when key is turned. I’ve read some past threads and seen that this is likely either a bad connection in the starter system, a bad slave solenoid, or a bad starter.

I’m not very good with electrical things, so I’m hoping the symptoms might help narrow down the possibilities. Both times it has happened, the boat has been running, then partially cooled down. Half an hour later, when cooled down some more, it started right up with no issue.

Between the two events, I’ve started it probably 30 or 40 times without issue, hot and cold, but perhaps not at that specific temperature. Or maybe it’s just coincidence

Your symptoms could be any of the three you listed. If you know how to use a voltmeter test for voltage at the slave soleniod next time it happens. If voltage present this will eliminate the slave soleniod and wiring to it, leaving the starter and associated wiring.
