Default erratic engine revs

On my 99 3200 scr with twin 5.7s I have had a couple of times where i was cruising at 3200 rpm and the starboard engine began to rev up and slow down on its own.The tach went from 3200 to 3500 and then back to 3200. It did this several times until i gave it more gas and fooled around with the throttle.I suspected something may have been slipping so i slowed to a stop and then gave it hard acceleration and it went fine. The props are new so i dont think the hub is slipping. Any ideas?

i also checked behind the engine below the coupler and did not see any sign of aluminum shavings,it has always been well greased.

Are the engines carb or EFI?

Sounds like the engine got lean, sort of like when your weed wacker is about to run out of gas the rpms will increase slightly then drop off.

This could be a clogged fuel pick up, filter, or fuel delivery issue.

Perry need more info to try and help; are the engines carb or EFI, having you check the gas for water, when the tach is changing rpms can you hear a change in the engine sound and or the boats speed?
