Default Engine compartment actuator

Hi,
I'm new here and Im just going to jump in. Has anyone installed power actuators on the engine compartment? I have a 1997 2100sr with the 5.7 merc. The dam thing is heavy and I thoought this would be a nice option. Any help would be appreciated...

Hi and welcome to the zoo...first might try getting some of those gas actuators...if that's what your talking about.....I have them installed on my hatch and it's a great addition...keeps the engine hatch up when I lift it and is just a pull and it comes up.....I think mine are the longest ...just make sure you predrill the hole and counter sink them...then add 4200 to seal it....that will do the job!!..I think they are way cheaper than the power actuated jobs........good luck and let us know how it goes!..

I have also been thinking of switching to electric lifts for my hatch (also a 97 2100 sr2). One of my gas lifts is giving out on me and the hatch has to weigh in at over 50lbs (probably closer to 75-100), and it doesnt feel good when it decides to come down on you. I Have seen them installed on a Regal, so I know it can be done, just have to find some for the right price. $400 is the cheapest I have found so far. Good luck in your search, and let us know what you find.
