Question Alpha 1 gen 2 stern drive oil leaking

My 1900sr is ten years old. I noticed this week that the gear lube was low and then after a few days out of the water, I noticed a puddle under the outdrive. I'm assuming that I have some leaking seals and will have to pull down the alpha.

I do most of the maintenence on my boat myself but have never removed the outdrive. I have the Alpha 1 service manual so I'm hoping this will help me do the job! The question is....have people done this before? Is this easier than I am making it out to be? Do I need any special tools?

Also, while I'm at it, what other stuff should I just go ahead and replace? I'll definitely change out the impeller! Should I get a gasket kit and replace all the gaskets along with whatever seals are leaking? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey, I pulled my drive on the boat we had many years ago but let me try to remember. I am a DIY person my self and this was not hard to do, juts take your time. The drive is heavy so I would suggest building a stand to put it on once you pull it. When i pulled mine I replaced my u joints, all seals, greased the gimbal bearing (checked it as well).

I would definelty replace all the seals and gaskets, its cheap.

Oh yea I replaces my bellows too while in there. Again this was a while ago so I cant remember it all. Its good that you have the manual, just follow it carefully. Make sure to use the black stuff on the gaskets when you put it back together.

Sorry I couldnt be any more help, hopefully someone else will chime in that has done this recently.
