Thanks again for all the help and suggestions.

I had no idea there were resistor and non resistor ignition coils, or their applications (actually the guy at the store wasnt that much help either, all he knew was that with resistor spark plugs I didnt need resistor coil, but couldnt explain why).

Obviously dont want to do any damage to the ignition system by putting the wrong one on.

Conversely, does that mean if I put on a resistor type coil, there will be a weaker spark?

nope...won't change the output of the coil ......what you get is alot of noise on your radio's ....I know that probably people here have never heard the whine an unprotected system can produce...it doesn't hurt the radios...just makes for an irritating listening ....

So by your logic of following the manual; and you put on maybe 100 hours a year (or season) on the mills, then you change your fuel filter every three years??? Naaaaah. Change your filter(s) every six months no matter what the manual says. Specially if the boat sits in a slip, or you don't keep the tank(s) full to help eliminate condensation. Overkill?? I don't think so SP.

Been there - but with my '66 Impala convertible. Installed non-resistor plugs (parts store gave me the wrong box and I didn't check the numbers before installing). Didn't take me long to figure it out, but sure drove me nuts until I did.

I change the F/W sep at the end of the season.

Steve, I've never heard of a "resistor ignition coil". Is one even necessary if "R" plugs and wires are being used?

no...not really....it's just an extra shield....if it were me...I'd just go with the standard coil...I hope this newbie isn't getting automobile rated coils....they aren't spark protected....and USCG apvd for boating applications....
