Default 2001 5.7 EFi Merc Fuel Water Seperator?

Hi there,

I have a 2400 SCR with the Merc 5.7 EFI. I ran into a guy in the gulf islands who was having problems with his 2005-2400 SCR...same engine. His was stalling but he was able to limp in to the fuel dock. He said he was going to drain the water out of the fuel line water separator filter (which he did). Then it ran fine. I have looked at mine but can't seem to locate one and in reading the Merc manual, it only mentions a water separating fuel filter that you change and discard, not one that you empty. Am I missing something here or is it only in newer models or possibly an after market unit (which Mercruiser doesn't recommend)? I have an aluminum tank (not sure if all years of this model do or not) and I keep the tank full before and after every trip.

thanks,

Mike

Mike
the efi engine doesn't have a fuel/water seperator due to the pressure drop it causes.....so...no..you just replace the filter...might wanna carry a few with you .....when I had my 2700scr with 6.2ltr mpi ....I carried 3 extra..incase I got some nasty gas....keep the tank full as your doing.....every now and then pour some water scavanger stuff....(ie seafoam or heet or something like that)....and replace your filter "at least" once a season....
I think his was an after market unit...
