Default 120 L-Drive Impeller housing question

1990 Force L-drive 120 motor. Is over heating at high rpms. Going to start with impeller and saw that the plastic housing is cracked. Question is....the rebuild kits I find have a white plastic pc included that fits in the hole in the housing beside the drive shaft. When I pulled my lower unit it did not have that pc there. WHAT IS IT AND DO I NEED IT IT!?!? The rebuild kit is for a 85hp-125hp85hp-125hp motor.

The crack is tight so doubt much water pressure would be lost.

The white sleeve connects the pump output to the water tube in the upper half. Look to see if the old one stayed on the upper tube.

Ok. Well I hope between the housing and the impeller it will fix my problem. Is there any sealant or anything I should use when reinstalling the gaskets and the plate?

I use mercruiser perfect seal on the gaskets.

I know with Alpha drives the lower must be installed while in forward gear and Bravos are done in neutral.

How did you install yours?

Well....I took it apart while in neutral but during more research found that a lot of them have to be in drive like you said. So I put it in drive for the install. Do I need to take it apart in drive and put it back together in neutral?

Not 100 percent sure but from what I know outboards are assembled in neutral so to answer your question yes.

Ok....put the boat in drive, disassembled LU, put in neutral and reassembled. Worked!!! Took it on the river last night and ran it for about 30 mins up and down at full throttle.....no overheating! Only issue I found is there seems to be a "sweet" spot witht the throttle. I push it all he way down and it runs about 4500 rpms. I move it up and down and its like it catches and picks up to 5000. Issue with the throttle cable maybe?

First glad to hear you got the shifting and heating fixed.

I don't know enough about this engine but I would suspect either cable/linkage issue or possibly dirty carbs. Does this engine have oil injection or do you mix the oil in the gas?

Yep I know it is a two stroke just was not cure if it had oil injection or old style mix in the gas.
