Default Where to mount VHF antenna??

I have an '01, 2300SC. I have a VHF radio, but do not have a antenna yet. I was looking at buying the 3' steel whip, but where do I mount it at. I know it is perference, just looking for past experiences.

Thanks,
Shep

shep...I don't know where you boat at but most people put it just aft of the helm station on the stbd side....it's fairly easy to feed a wire and then pull the cable thru.....right about where your throttle qaudrant is...put it on a mount so it can be lowered...

now for some radio basic's...I'm sure you know all this...vhf is line of site..meaning it won't follow the curvature of the earth when recieving and broadcasting a signal....secondly..the higher the antenna..the more range you'll get.........so...with that said....get a 8ft whip antenna...well worth the extra cash....
