Default Trim switch problem

Maybe someone has had this problem before and can point me to the source quickly. My trim for outdrive does not operate with switch in up position but works fine going down. I can get it to work moving up with trailer switch???

sounds like the switch has gone bad.....take it apart and clean it with some contact cleaner or wd40...spray it right into the switch....work it..then see if that doesn't fix it..
usually just corrosion..

I have exactly the same problem, I have not had time to confirm what the service manual says but I will check when I have a minute and re-post
Send me an email and I will try and send you that portion of the service manual, I can't remember what site I got it from

Try this link http://www.boatfix.com/merc/mainmenu.pdf

I think it is service manual 11

Exactly the same problem here - For some additional info, here's a link to my previous post on the topic: http://www.maxumownersclub.com/forum....php?f=1&t=880

In my case the trim "up" works while the boat is in the water. Based on this, I think I might have a bad ground in either the physical trim sender and/or trim limit switch (pucks) - my non-electrician deduction is that the water is completing the circuit (would like someone with electrical knowledge to verify if Im correct). I also get HUGE voltage drops when I trim in or out, and my trim gauge is less than accurate to say the least.

Keep us posted.

There should be two solenoids mounted on the trim pump. You might want to confirm that one of the solenoids isn't bad as well. I don't recall if there is one for up and one for down, but someone else might be able to clarify that point.
