Default Rev counter behaving strangly 4.3

My rev counter doesn't seem to be reading right it sits at about a 1000 for a while then jumps to 3000 anyone got any ideas why this is? its a new gauge, is the signal from the alternator or the coils on the 4.3?

Thanks
Gareth

Just for the fun of it clean the terminals on the back of the tack and the connector anyways. They may look new but still give you your problem, it happened on our last boat
Cheers

Is it just a feed from the live side then? I might run a temp one in see if it sorts it

I thought it comes from the neg side of the coil. You should be able to find a schematic on line.

My tach does the same thing, just starts floating to a higher RPM. Sometimes I can tap it and it will fall back to the correct reading. Mine's on a 5.0 MPI but sure sounds like the same issue.

I'm taking it in for some service this week and will let you know what they find. (still under warrranty, otherwise I would try to fix it myself :-)

Cheers,
-Greg
