Default GPS/FISH FINDER

Hi, For X-MAS I received a Humminbird 383c gps/fish finder great gift. My question is it has temp. and gps speed in the transducer. Now if I change the transducer for a puck transducer (in hull mount) I wont be able to use the temp. feature. Is that true? Also on my dash I have two accy. switches that go into one 7.5amp fuse. Can I just change the 7.5amp fuse with a 3amp fuse or should I put a inline 3amp fuse, go to the switch and leave the 7.5amp fuse alone? I'm going to install on Sat. how fun is that. By the way my Boat is a 2005 1900 SR3.

Thanks
Barney

what I'd do is go to the pwr block and forego the switch....use the inline fuse...then you can mount and install the fishfinder...yes the temp will not work with a shoot thru hull transducer...I just got a garmen too and am thinking of installing it with the shoot thru...but I have gps that gives speed and up here..I don't really care what the temp is...it's friggin cold either way!!.....so...hope this helps....let us know how the install goes..

I hooked my Humminbird 717, GPS and VHF radio to an unused accy. switch, thinking that I could just use the switch to turn them all on and off with. Only the radio works like that. I can turn them all off with the switch, but to turn on the fishfinder and GPS I have to use the buttons on the units. I guess it was kind of a waste of time.
I do use the switch to turn them all off while I'm loading onto the trailer.

Like seapuppy said, I just left the switch fuse alone and used each of the inline fuses.

So you guys would just forget the switch, use the inline fuse and go directly to the pwr block. O.K. I don't want to sound stupid but here goes anyway. Is the pwr block the same as the fuse block and since I've not look at it yet is there a terminal to hook the wires to. Like seapuppy I don't care about the temp. but since I have it I want it, it's a man thing.

Thanks and this is a great site

well...down at the bottom of the dash should be a DC breaker panel...you can find a breaker that is empty and put a blade connector on there to get +dc...the ground block is there behind the dash.....look for a connector block and use a lug to add to the dcground block.....that will supply the power....
as for temp...the shoot thru will not provide temp....only depth and a picture of what's under..you have to use the transducer that mounts to the transom......
hope this helps....

While your working under there you might want to install two of theses bus bars.

One for power and one for ground. That way when you install other electronics you can just attach them to the bars.

I installed on Sat. everything went pretty well. On the fuse panel there was a opening so I put a 3amp fuse in and connected the red wire to the fuse block and the black wire to the ground block and guess what, power, To easy. Then I mounted the unit on the right side of the gauges for that is the only place it would fit without blocking the gauges. Mounted the Transducer (still needs some adjusting) ran the wire up and through the Transom and to the unit. Everything seem to work out of water color is nice, speed (0) temp (56.6) heat wave water depth, that's right I'm not in water yet. My Wife came out and said that looks neat whats all that mean and said I don't know I guess I have to read the manual now and figure everything out.

Again thank you all for all the help

Sounds that everything went well. Post some pictures for us.

I've had mine for over a year and I still don't know how to use all the features.

you can try and open a site on the member's gallery...then up load there..make sure you size them properly or they won't take....

Default Fishfinder temp

Hi
I installed a shoot through transducer with temperature on my last boat.
It will read through the hull if you can isolate the area under the transducer.
I did this by incasing it with spray foam which insulates the engine temperature from the transducer. It looks a little odd but it worked.

Your transducer works as a dual (depth and temp)? I must be out of touch with technology, lately.

I want one!!

All the new transducers read both depth and temp. What is neat about his setup, is that it is reading the temp. through the hull. That's a great idea.

Your right Steve. I guess I meant that they are all capable of reading temperature when properly equipped. You would need an optional transducer or the temp. probe that connects to the 160C head unit.
