Default CD Changer Removal

Hello Maxum Owners. I just replaced the original (I think) JVC receiver in my 1998 3000 SCR with a more modern Kenwood unit with Bluetooth, USB, etc. I was going to put the old unit along with the JVC 12 disc CD changer on Ebay together to get the most value out of them as the changer is now useless.

I can't figure out how to get the thing out without completely dismantling the cabin. There are two screws in the compartment underneath but they just spin as I can see some Nylock nuts on them through a small gap on the side of the unit.

Has anyone removed or replace one of these unit? Searches are turning up nothing. Thanks for any help.

I don't know the 3000 SCR layout, but I know stereos very well. Are you talking about a head unit that is similar to a car stereo? These units often held in by tabs that you need release keys for. These keys can be found on ebay for less than $5. Look up "JVC car radio removal tool."
If you post a picture I may be able to provide specific instructions. Model number of radio would be helpful also.

I have already replaced the head unit. I want to remove the 12 disc CD changer in the bottom of the pic (if it posts, my first time doing this)

Hi there, The new Kenwood is a KMR-M318BT and it is not hooked up to the changer, doesn't have the connector for it. I really have no use for it as I mainly use Bluetooth or aux input. I was just going to remove it but I'm not going to take the cabin apart to do so, I'll just let it sit there lol.

No, none of the manufacturers use CD changers anymore. Half of them, like mine, don't even have CD players. MP3s and Bluetooth are taking over.

It's been a while since I had to go digging in there, but if memory serves, I had to had to pull out the Power panel and reach down inside from there to remove the screws.

See the attached image for the mounting..

The last time I teased someone about old technology, they took it personally. Very, very personally........ so I'll avoid any digs at legacy tech.

You can rip your CD's to MP3's. Then in a digital format, they're easier to deal with. Download them onto a phone or an iPod. We had a Fusion stereo with a iPod port. Our entire CD collection is on the iPod. I'm getting another one this winter for the new boat. You can stream the iPhone via bluetooth.

Upload them to a cloud account and stream them via BlueTooth.

We've been streaming SiriusXM for years. Lately we'be been playing Pandora via bluetooth.

There are lots of options.

Well I was able to remove the shore power panel and get a socket down there while I removed the screws from below-thanks jparsons121.

I was then able to push it rearward and rotate it 90 degrees to clear the side brackets.

I was going to make a plate to cover the opening but it’s all trimmed out so I think I’ll use it fo manual storage. Thanks everyone.
