Default 2700 SCR Depth Finder Not Working

I take delivery on a 1992 2700 SCR next week and the depth finder is not working. The gentlemen I am purchasing it from states that it worked at the end of last season but when comminshing for this season, it did not. When the panel lights are lit you can see light from behind it but the guage doesn't work. I am thinking it may be a fuse. Any suggestions and where would that fuse be located?

well...1) did you turn it on at the dash as well as the unit itself??...if there is still no pwr going from the dash switch to the DS...then down below the steering wheel is a panel with push in DC breakers....check those to see if there is one tripped...if not...then it may...(I doubt it) be one behind the dash...pull the 6-8 screws on the instr. cluster to peak behind it....that's the only pwr it gets...

welcome to the zoo.....

Are you talking about the built in depthfinder? The sounder is not very powerful and I've noticed over the years that mine has gotten a little more intermittent every year. I suspect it has a lot to do with the metal infused bottom paint because the years I get it sanded and repainted the depthsounder seems to work a little better. Then again, it's a pretty cheap unit that MAXUM installed. It could just be worn out. I bought a combo chartplotter/dephtsounder/fishfinder and get great results.
