Thanks!

My 1900 had 6.5 factory speakers. I upgraded them to JL Audio 7.7's. Great sound!

hmmm... mine are not that big... I have attached a pic I found of them... if you notice the black square next to it is a cup holder that fits a can with little excess room... that should give you guy's an idea of the speaker size... but I'm thinking 5" possibly... what say you?

You only live 20 miles away (I'm sure it seems inconvenient, but coming from someone who lives 129 miles away from the boat, that would be a dream to me).

I would just go to the boat, remove one of the speakers, measure the rough cut hole. That is the proper way to do it. Many speakers of that size are 6.5" I've seen some 6" as well.

well I went out to the boat this morning on my way out to a job and pulled a speaker... it turns out it was 5"... not even 5.25" so now the fun will be trying to find a good quality replacement... I do not want to cut the hole larger.... that's why I'm going to stick with the 5"

If you have ever used Ebay, there would be a good place to look under boat parts. probably a real good selection and reasonably priced.

That is a weird size. Going from an existing 5" hole to a 6.5" is going to be tricky. As is finding a exterior/marine 5" speaker.

Looking at your picture, going from a 5" to a 6.5" should be that hard. I was worried about going up in size when I had mine done, but when I watched how they did it, it was fairly easy and the hole size was not much bigger. I would seriously think about upgrading to a 6.5". The real possible problem may be the depth of the hole to accommodate the new size speaker...depending on which one you go with.

depth is not a problem in my boat... the problem I have is opening up the hole... I have done it before in other applications and it is a big pain in the butt.. and I don't have a jig saw that is small enough for this job.

^^Ditto^^

You're going to need a rotary tool to accomplish this. The other trick would be to get a 6.5" hole saw. Then drill into a piece of wood or starboard. Use a strong adhesive to bond the 6.5 'blank' disk over the 5" hole. Once the adhesive is cured, use the hole saw to redrill out the 6.5" hole in the boat.
