Default The day has come

After a few 'almosts' and one extremely close but 'killed by survey' we got the phone call this afternoon that our month long wait is over and we're proud owners of a 1999 4100 SCA.

We'll be enjoying our first underway tomorrow as we motor about 8nm from the boat's current home to our marina.

Spent the day translating all the system level book learning into practical hands on in port familiarization. Everything seems to be working as advertised so we'll be casting off in the morning. I'll take more pic tomorrow, but here's the happy new owners on the bow.

First underway completed successfully. Boat is in her new 'home' after a nice easy ride.

We took off early - around 0915HR, so wind wasn't an issue when we arrived at our home marina. Topped off the fuel tanks and attempted a pump out (more on this later) before heading over to the home slip.

Lots of reading (including a great book - 7 steps to successful docking) really paid off. There's nothing like the control you have with two engines. Again, the wind was negligible, I'm sure there will be more challenging days in the future.

The only issue arose during the attempted pump out. My black tank panel had a flashing red light (light labeled Tank Full) so I figured it was better to suck out what ever was in there. I never observed any 'flow' through the clear part of the pump out hose, so I don't think anything was actually sucked out - because there was a line forming at the fuel/pump out dock, I didn't want to spend time trouble shooting, so just unhooked and headed over the the slip knowing I had my first 'project' identified.

With no time to do a good crawl around or trace out the black water system (I'll do that tomorrow) I can only think that there is a value line up or clogged tank vent issue. The boat has sat, mostly unused, for almost a year, and I'm not sure when the last pump out happened. Both the forward and aft head are flushing correctly. The Tank Full light is now a solid Red. I'll try to get is figured out and then do an underway with a pump out when leaving or returning to the marina.

If the boat sat that long with waste in the tank it probably solidified so it will not be able to be sucked out. This can also cause the float indicator to stick so you may have sucked some out but the float is stuck so the light won't go off.
