Fantastic Mike. Thanks a million. It also appears that it goes into reverse when pushed forward and vice versa! So I kinda figured that I would get a mercury gen ii with new cables and start at the beginning. On the bright side there is no rot in the bilge ��

Do you know if the cables are on right? Also they make a counter rotating outdrive for twin application, was yours replaced and may be the wrong one used?

Yup. It's an old US marine type and in very poor condition. I am going to change to a mercury gen ii type with new cables. I think that should work ok.

I did not know Maxum used the US Marinre units, Bayliner did and yep junk.

Mine came with a Quicksilver 3000 and works fine 20 years latter. There are good aftermarket options as well such as Morse.
