Smile Finally Going to be a Maxum owner

Back story, don't we all have them

We bought a 1983 20' Bayliner Capri back in June 2012 after I retired for the second time It was the perfect starter boat for us to decide if we would use it often enough to warrant the costs ...
The little Cuddy served us well we loved it and ended up selling it for exactly the amount we paid for it last Sept.. We sold it to a couple that was doing to same thing we had done.. They were looking for a starter boat to get them out on the big lake.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Pend_Oreille

Sometime around Nov we found a 2000 Maxum 2400 SCR for sale down in Colorado the price seemed fair the pics looked great and I sent my Sis and BiL to go take a look at the boat..
They sent us pics back that looked like they were from two different boats turned out the Craigslist ad was using the pics from when they bought the boat not recent ones.

Over the winter and into spring and early summer we have been shopping ..
We found a new Godfrey 22' Pontoon that we were seriously considering.. We were actually getting all the finances in order to make an offer on it..
We decided to rent a Pontoon this past weekend to help make up our mind about it..
I happened to check CL up[ here and Boom there is a 2000 Maxum 2400SCR for sale dock here at our lake.. Everything looks good so we went and took a look and a ride on Sat..
Even better then we had hoped for as this one has the 5.7L and Bravo III out drive rather then the 5.0L and Alpha 1 like the CO boat had..
We take the Pontoon out all day Sun with almost the same chop on the water and HATED it..

Called the people with the Maxum made what I figured was a Fair offer and they thought so too as we are making the arraignments to do paperwork and take possession of the boat tomorrow or Friday..

I am sure I will find a few fixies that I will get to do after season so will be posting many questions as they arise..

Looking forward to being Maxum owners

v/r

Whew that took forever,,, we were waiting on the Mechanics Survey of the boat

She got an "A" few small fixies and a new Gimbal bearing and U-Joints should bring her to an "A+"

Planning on taking possession tomorrow afternoon

What is so damn hard to understand

I bring you Money
You bring me clear Title

Still not a Maxum owner

Be careful, when people stall it sometimes mean they are BSing you. He may not have the title.

Best of luck.

My wife is a bank manager and I am a finance manger at a dealership we do this stuff daily..

The other party said they had done car finance too

What we got were WA titles in some guy's name we never heard of, signed off with a squiggle (I thought my sig was bad)
Bills of sale, with the same stuff

No Notary stamps verifying the sigs

No Release of Interest,, No Power of Attorney,

I understand trying to avoid paying sales tax, I really do, and by skipping a step they save the money...
But if you skip steps you have to still create a Legal Paper Trail

Basically right now they are selling me a boat, that on paper they don't own !!!

I do NOT think it is a scam, BUT I still have to protect my investment with a Legal Transfer of Possession..
Idaho DMV sometimes gets their panties in a twist when the titles are from Washington so we have to dot "I"'s and cross "T"s

Gotta love it, all we can do is shake our heads. and be sad because the boat itself is awesome and we want it... We don't want it bad enough to be stupid

Wish me luck

Why ???

Finally found out the whole story, but I has to revert back to me being an *******

Meeting with the guy that actually holds Title on the boat and hopefully getting this deal done..

Had to explain that I REALLY just don't care what their deal is between themselves,, I just want to give money and get a clean legal title transfer done..

I like the boat, I think the price is fair, I really just don't care,, as long as I legally own the thing

Why can't people just speak the truth and save time and energy

So it's still not a done deal. You need to determine your threshold and at some point walk which may get them to come clean if they really want to sell it.

Owning a boat with bad feelings can make owning not a sweet.

FINALLY !!!!

I must say that keeping my hand in the Car Biz and having friends that have friends sure helped this process

I probably would have given up without having the inside track to help me get the Legal Transfer of ownership accomplished

But she is ours now
