Plug in a scan tool that works.

Is this a MPI engine? If so the hours should be stored in the ECM. If carbureted I don’t think the hours are stored. I doubt the hour meter is recoverable. You send it back to the vendor to see if they can read it but I’m not sure it’s worth the effort.

If you cannot recover the engine hours you can buy a single gauge and start recording. You do the math to figure out a ballpark of how many hours it already has. The average boater puts about 50 hrs on per season. So your boot should have about 500 hrs of run time. Now that could be more or less depending on your geographical location.

Thank you all for the info, yes it is mpi, and yes I can plug a scanner in to engine and read hours, the digital hour meter on the speedometer says 0 . I was trying to see if I can get it to read what the scanner reads, or at the least get the digital hour meter to work.

Unless replaced with an aftermarket that plugs into the MPI, hours are calculated by the meter independant of the ECM.

Gauge should have a terminals for signal, ground and battery. If all connections are good, bat, ground and signal, it may be bad internals.
Farina uses the batt (ignition on) and the signal to determine engine run hours vs key on hrs.
