Default 1999 Maxum 2100 SR

My name is AJ and I'm the new owner of a 1999 Maxum 2100 SR that was very well taken care of. I absolutely love this boat. Me and the family have been having a great time with it. I am new to boating (kind of), but I have been a mechanic for a long time (not a boat mechanic), so I'm sure I will be working on this boat on my own. The only issues that I have with it are the trim guage doesn't work, the tachometer doesn't work and the depth finder constantly shows over 300ft. After looking in the engine compartment, I found the transducer, but didn't find anything out of place. I also found the trim sensors, but I'm going to have to get a low profile "elbow" type screwdriver to get them off. I am in the process of trying to repair these issues, which is the reason why I started looking for a forum. I look forward to sharing info with you guys.

Thanks,

AJ

Welcome aboard

IMO I would wait on the trim and limit sendors until the bellows need replacement as it will make it much easier.

Other things to consider are the raw water impeller should be replace every two years.

The exhaust is water cooled and should be inspected as they clog and eventually need to be replaced.

Fresh or salt water?

The exhaust will need to be replaced every 5 - 10 years depending how salty.

The tranducer is probably loose and has an air pocket between it and the hull. The problem is it is still bonded to tight to remove without damage.

Best bet is to get a new one that is either bonded next to the old one or mounted to the transom outside.

Go to the documents tab and find the merc manual #24 to get a understanding of the marine differences.

BTY what engine and drive do you have?

I flush it with fresh water every time we pull out, but i'm not quite sure how much that helps the manifolds and risers. I also hose it down (especially the lower unit) immediately at the boat wash by our marina. I try to keep wax on the boat, but the salt seems to eat it right back off. It was a fresh water only boat when I bought it, so everything looked great. Just after a month of using it about twice a week in salt water, i can already see the damage that salt can do.

Flushing helps and will get closer to the 10 year life before replacement.

Alpha Gen 2 I/O? The raw water pump is mount in the top of the lower unit. A bad impeller will result in overheat and kill the engine. Cheap maintance to replace vs engine replacement.
