No Heat

Finally spent the night on the boat. The heat in the cabin worked fine until this morning. I turned the heat off at the thermostat then went to turn it back on about an hour later no heat. The fan kicks in and I can hear the unit turn on but no heat. I let it run for 30 mins but still no good. The fuses are good, any ideas? [/b]

Forgot to mention. It's a Mermaid Marine Air M6 electric heat. I looked it up on the web site this morining. The troubleshooting site gave me a few things to check. Any further advice will help

is this unit a reverse cycle heat/ac???..check to see that your getting water flow out of the port on the side of the boat....or the intake is blocked.....check your sea strainer....if it's clogged preventing water flow...that could be it...

It's electric. The web site says it could be a thermal safty switch or a bad coil and to remove the cover on the evaporator to check both. The problem is the only cover on the evaporator is a small cover covering some wires. Any ideas.

well..according to the instructions on the pdf file..that you should have downloaded and printed...take it to the boat..and remove the AC pwr...in otherwords...trip the breaker on your heating unit....then find the unit ...take out 4 screws...take the cover off.....using a VO meter...check for any impedence on the leads...if it reads open...then you have a dead sensor or heating coil....

I had the marinas mechanic look at the problem. The mechanic said I have reverse cycle heat, I have electric. :roll: After checking somethings he said I needed serveral parts. After he left I did as the web site said. The thermo saftey fuse was bad, ordered it $15.

update, replaced the "heat overload fuse" $28 with 2 day shipping. Lowered thermostat to 71, was set at 85. Tonight lows in the 50's, should be a great night to spend on the boat.
