Default Steering Cable replacement

Hello, I have a 1993 Maxum 1800 xr 115 Merc outboard. I believe I need to replace the steering cable. The steering is hard to turn, especially to the left and is clunky when I turn the wheel. I greased the steering rack, but had little improvement. How do I know which cable to purchase? Do I measure the current cable etc. ? Not sure which one to order. Thanks

Have you greased the tube back bybe motor?

Yep measure the old one to get the correct length. Do you try an Google which cable you boat takes?
