Default 3000scr generator blowing 8 amp fuse

My generator blew the 8 amp fuse in the back side of the gen. Its a westerbeake generator. I turned the breaker off @ the generator and it still blows the fuse. I cant even get it to crank. I disconnected the choke solenoid thinking there could be a problem there, but that made no difference. Help

Had the same thing happen to a friend this summer. However his was deep in the bowels of a Carver aft cabin and he had to disaseemble the manifolds and risers on one side of one engine and half the generator to get to the card to swap it out. His was a space issue. Hopefully yours is easier to access.

Our 7.2 Westerbeke did the same thing this past year at 860 hours. Our problem was a bad overspeed circuit board. We have easy access so it took less than 30 minutes to replace. I paid $190 at Torresen Marine.

Do you have a house battery charger hooked up to the genny cranking batt?

Sup!! Gar! Steve, the J to the E to the F to the F to the Means Man! and of course....the immortal.....ladies and germs! Havaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-MAX! Stand Proud Boys!!

Merry Christmas you boatin Mo-phos!! (I think I can still say that right SP? cuz I meant the Xmas part!) sorry just bustin your chops Steve!! lol. Been doing a lot of traveling for business and personal. Needed to streamline my life. Hence my my departure.

My advice for Sweet Summertime: My 4.5 Beke' On the Bella drove me to drink till I found the reason for the G/D 8 Amp 12 volt circuit system fuse BLOWING!!! It was the house battery charger overloading the charging circuit. Makes sense though; if the genny charging circuit is feeding power combined with the on board battery charger all the more willing to give even more power, the combination of the two overwhelm the genny's fuse and pop.-
Just a thought?. My Beke hasn’t missed a beat since I removed the 3rd bank on board battery charger wires... Hope it’s that simple and cheap to fix. Two words that are not normally synonymous with boating!! And the best part is I learned it here on one of the forums. Sometimes it pays to ask and listen!

    Take care’ Maxum Gang.

Make sure none of your pressure switches are shorting to ground. The oil pressure switch is the one that is notorius to short to ground. Check either terminal to ground, you should not have any continuity.
