BOAT=Break Out Another Thousand
So,
I laughed at all your who had to go up on land in October, and i proclaimed I would be out in November in 70's weather.....
It was 68 degrees but I did not make it to the gas dock for my final fill up.
I explained is various post that my used 200 maxum had a new engine and outdrive, but that did not help me with the engine coupler crapping out.
Putting thru the 5 mph wake zone, i did hit somethings at 800rpm, and then I had no moving propellers.
So, i shut down then engine and rasied the out drive, and while in gear with the engine off, i could rotate the props.
The rub on the bottom was only a sand bar, and most mechnic's will tell you the outdrive shaft will break first, before the pressed in rubber engine in coupler breaks.
I had some weird rpm reading like it jumping up and down on the tac, and while most people blamie the gauge, I think my coupler was slipping under a load eairler this summer.
So, the good news it happen in November, at the end of my block, and I was the only one on board, plus sea tow was 5 min away, bad news is the engine got to come out to get the six bolts from the coupler to the flywheel.
Its like a $1200 job, and I'm happier knowing it was all checked out for next season.
