Default small filter box right in front of alf bilge pump is constanly running,

Hello my name is jeff, i live in bermuda, i just brought a 2800scr 2000 model
just wanted to introduce myself and ask a question,

i was out yesterday checking fuses , changing blown ones, while i was laying on floor doing fuses i noticed a humming coming from the cabin so i went below and found that it was coming from a small square box in front of the alf bilge pump so i felt around and found a hose that come from the drain on the bathroom floor going directly into this box i belive its some sort of filter system ,, but should this shut off? because it constanly runs, the only way it stops is if i pull out the fuse or turn the batts off has any one else had this problem?

    thank you
    Jeff

welcome to the zoo...the 2800 is a nice sized boat....you should get plenty of fun with it in bermuda...dang..I need a vacation out there sometime...
hemmingways....that is the shower sump....it takes water from the head shower and drains to the shower sump pump, which is in a box under the deck and has a float....the float might need to be cleaned out...once you do that..it should operate on demand...ie take a shower and the drain water is pumped overboard.....

Bermuda?---cool to know a boat the same size as mine is out in the middle of the Atlantic!

Are you sure this is the AFT bilge pump? If it's near the shower/head then it's the FORWARD bilge pump/shower pump. Mine will run constantly when the float switch gets clogged with hair, debris and won't drop back down. The pump "thinks" there's water (because the float switch is stuck in an UP position) and keeps pumping, which is the humming sound you're likely hearing.

Solution might be to see if the float switch (probably the actual thing you're describing when you say "small, square box") can be forced (gently) down to see if the pump shuts off. If it DOES shut off, then you probably need to clean it out of goo/crap/debris, etc... Or just replace the float switch if cleaning it out won't solve this, they're less than $20 @ West Marine.

Welcome to our zoo as SeaPuppy says!

My boat also has a manual switch on the dash for the forward bilge pump. You should check that as well.

I place a small stainless sink drain screen (from Ace Hardware) in the shower and have not had to clean anything out of the sump since. The screen catches everything and I clean it out after each shower.
