Default mercruiser outdrive alpha one gen II

i have a 1999 Maxum sr W/5.0 with a alpha one gen II the out drive went out. not to sure why has no water on the oil, and i don't recall hitting anything. So i look on line a found a aftermarket out drive $1300. 3 years Full warranty . and a OEM outdrive for $3,500 with a 1 year waranty? is there a big deal if the aftermarkt out drive has a better warranty then oem?

ed...anytime you can find an outdrive with a 3 yr warranty...jump on it....would be interested in seeing the outdrive though and what caused yours to croak.....

but overall...if I were shopping for an outdrive..I'd do the samething and go for one with a good sized warranty...make sure they cover everything though...

the out drive is a SE-116 they told me there is a 3 Year Fault free warranty for $1,395 .New . and i keep my old outdrive. Have you ever heard of these people? are these any good outdrives? And i am not to sure what happen to my outdrive and why it went out on me . i started to drain the outdrive oil. it was clean ! no water.very little metel in the drain plug. this weekend i will pull off the cap to look at those top gears. the prop spins freely . no mater where i have is in foward or rev.i

you can do this a couple of ways...have the boat in the water and secured to the dock...start engine...shift into fwd..rev...you will feel the gears grunt and shift into gear....or on a trailer...have someone (with the drive on muffs) start the engine...try shifting fwd/rev.....if the props don't spin..or it won't go into gear ...you have a shifter/linkage problem....

I was dealing with a mobile boat mechanic in Houston TX. and that person told me it was my shift cable. me being the person that i am i had to check it for my self. and found out it was not the shift cable! The prop i have on my boat is a Quick silver . and on that Quicksilver their is a Flo-Torq II Hub . And that was the only problem i had. just pick up a new hub kit , then back to the lake. i guess i must have hit something under water and did not know it. i am the only driver of my boat . is it cost me $100 to get bad info.
