2nd)for the swim step...you will need to drill the pilot hole and then counter sink the gelcoat....then apply a blob of silicone into the hole...then run the male snap into that hole...I did the outer outboard snap first...then adjusted the carpet to align with the decking...then marked where the female snap was...drill the second hole...countersink and seal..then run the male into the hole...done...took me awhile to do the swim step but once done they just snap in and out with ease.....
as for weather....if I know it's going to rain...I won't install the carpets..but for nice days...I do...I remove them and toss them on the deck in the cockpit as we transit from one marina to the other...they wash up real easily with some simple green and then you can hang them to dry...on a sunny day they will dry in about an hr....corinthian makes a really nice carpet...so far they have held up better than I had hoped.....
    I hope this helps...

1st) well.i finally have a few minutes to talk about the install.after I did the pattern and sent it back to corinthian carpets...I had a couple of phone calls from Matt (I think that's his name).where we talked about a few clarification questions.within a day the carpets were sitting at my door when I got home from work the carpets are rubber backed and bead bound all edges.i didn't have them install the snaps as I wanted to make sure they would fit my decking.so I installed the snaps onto the carpets with a pair of pliers looking snap crimpers.they work great but you do need to insure that the buttons are on the right side of the carpets.otherwise it's drill the wrongly installed snap out and resinstall the new one correctly...(did it twice) anyway.once you have the snaps installed into the carpets.the males are drilled into the surface your installing the carpets too.for the steps going down into the salon.it was really easy.no silicone sealant needed.
